Another very good read in this series I was waiting to hear Matthew Chandler s story and I wasn t disappointed Although his meeting with Priscilla Symthe was accidentally, she was certainly a match for him There is a mystery to Matthew s background that prevents him from committing to anyone Will Priscilla be able to breach the barrier around his heart There is also the problem of how he was cheated out of his money It was good to read of Tristan and Isabella from the last book Highly recommend this series I was given a copy and I have voluntarily and honestly reviewed it. I was looking forward to reading Chandler s story He has been my favorite character from the very beginning What can I say I do have a thing for bad boys I couldn t wait to see how such a cold hearted cynical rogue can find love Well, as expected, there was a true gentleman underneath that I do not care mask And our heroine turned out to be quite devious in a good way It was fun to watch H and h get closer by playing games And even so there was no mystery to solve, taking down the villain was exciting and enjoyable All in all this book was a great ending to a great series. He Promised His Name And His Protection But He Never Promised His LoveMatthew Chandler Built His Fortune Catering To The Debauched Antics Of The Ton But One Turn Of The Cards Threatens Everything He S Worked Hard To Achieve Suspecting Foul Play At The Gaming Table, Matthew Needs Time And Money If He Has Any Hope Of Uncovering The Plot To Ruin HimWhen Miss Priscilla Smythe Finds Herself In A Compromising Situation In The Holbrooks Garden There Appears To Be Only One Option To Save Her Reputation Marry Lord Morford Indeed, His Mother S Plan To Force Them To Wed Worked Perfectly But Ruination Seems Appealing Than A Life Spent With A Man She Doesn T Love That Is Until Matthew Chandler Appears With An Offer Any Respectable Lady Would RefuseThe Game BeginsFrom The Moment She Accepted His Offer, He Made It Clear Their Marriage Was Nought But An Opportunity To Beat Their Opponents Theirs Was To Be A Marriage Of Convenience But It Seems He Underestimated The Lady S Hand Good Finish to Fun SeriesFrom the moment the character Matthew was introduced in book 3, I was hoping he would be one of the main characters When I realized it was with Priscilla also of book 3 , I was excited Their characters were not overly unique, but still fun and I like how they play off of each other I did wish there was a little detail and build up The story was not told badly, but it felt unnecessarily rushed Once again, although it takes place in 1820, the details are such that it really could be in any number of time periods and it would be the same story So if you want a historical romance that is full of historical details and events find another author However, if you re looking for a fun , slightly steamy romance with a historical nod this book the whole series is a good choice. Miss Smythe and Tristan Morford have been tricked into a dark portion of the garden , Mr Chandler, who is Lord Morford s friend agrees to marry Miss Priscilla Smythe and allows Lord Morford to marry the lady he loves Matthew does not trust people There are a few twists to the tale and a surprise or two I read this in one sitting, a great book The author wrote well, the characters are believable and the story moves smoothly I really loved this, the way Priscilla and Matthew struggle to be honest with each other, and the banter with each other, helps this story seem real I highly recommend this book and hope I will get to read her other ones.I received this ARC free and voluntarily reviewed it. What You Promised is the fourth and final instalment in Adele Clee s Anything For Love series Both Mathew and Priscilla were introduced in the previous book What You Deserve but it can completely be read as a stand alone story The premise is that Priscilla is a victim of a cruel trick played by Lord Morford s Tristan hero of previous book mother in an attempt to compromise them both into marriage Enter Tristan s best friend Mathew Chandler who offers to marry Priscilla himself in order to save his friend and also avail himself of Priscilla s dowry which is much needed since he has just been fleeced by a couple of card sharks Priscilla has no wish to marry Lord Morford and is intrigued by Mathew so agrees And so the two enter into a marriage of convenience Mathew is adamant that theirs will be a marriage of mutual benefits but no love He has suffered in the past and values honesty above all else and genuinely believes he is incapable of the emotion since he has had little of it in his life He earns his living hosting illicit parties in his home and so really never has a chance to see what true love and affection is.Priscilla goes into the marriage with her eyes wide open but still harbouring the hope that they will develop genuine feelings for one another.I absolutely loved Mathew He is so convinced that he is a rogue and a scoundrel but his protectiveness towards and care of Priscilla belies his words Your heart goes out to him as you realise that he genuinely does not see his own worth His slow realisation that life can be is wonderful to watch I won t say he is redeemed because he really wasn t a rake that needed it He was just slow to appreciate his own worth Priscilla is a wonderful heroine She sees the best in people, never judges and puts her whole heart in supporting her husband, despite her dislike of the parties he holds What I found really wonderful is the honesty between the two There are no petty misunderstandings and unnecessary arguments Both help and support each other and are open and honest which is refreshing to see in a romance This is actually my favourite in the series and I can t recommend it enough Adele s writing is fabulous and once started I could not put it down I have bought several of Adele s books and have not been disappointed but I was lucky enough to have been gifted an ARC copy of What You Promised for my honest review. Miss Priscilla Smythe had been compromised and she had two men to choose from, Matthew Chandler was the winner Matthew had been betrayed and felt he had no heart He was cold as stone and had no interest in love This tale is a little different but delightful The way they carry on, Lords trying not to be seen as crude but put them in the right place and, wow The characters, some actually are characters, but they appear full bodied and lively There is some danger and intrigue, but there is some humor, also The author has managed to make this an excellent story I read it in one sitting and had a few laughs as well I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.I received this ARC free and voluntarily reviewed it. What You Promised by Adele Clee is the first book I have read, but the 4th book in her Anything For Love series Even though it is a series, it can be read as a standalone I did wish that there was a little detail at the beginning as to what had happened in the garden in the previous book The story is well written and the characters are developed There are a few steamy scenes and profanity, but the overall story is very good It is fast paced and an easy read At times I almost wished it was longer and had side stories on Tristan and Isabella and definitely how the meeting with Simon went Overall I enjoyed the book I did receive an ARC but voluntarily read and gave my honest, fair review. FairThough thin on plot and filled with sex scenes between the H h, Tristan and Priscilla, there was enough character development to make me care about the characters I ve found that s fairly typical of Adele Clee s writing as this is about the 4th or 5th book of hers that I ve read for free with my Kindle Unlimited account She does just enough to keep me invested, but I m fairly certain I wouldn t have read that many had I had to purchase them individually Bottom line I ve not rated any of Ms Clee s work above 3 on If she would break out of her own mold to write richer plots, develop interesting secondary characters and create authenticity via the conventions of speech, manners and customs of the Regency era then I think she would be much greater than the barely average historical romance author she has been for me up to this point. This was my 3rd favorite of the Anything for Love series There was very little drama and almost no action in this book Nothing much happened.I did really like the characters Matthew and Priscilla but wish they could have had a little plot I enjoyed the way Priscilla teased Matthew then denied him, I thought it was clever and gave her the upper hand in a relationship where she could have easily been lost I thought the setting was very interesting and was excited to see how and when Matthew would reform his wild ways His character reminded me a little bit of The Great Gatsby as did his wild parties. His devotion to his marriage was endearing, and his protection of his wife was precious I have read everything published by Adele Clee and one of my favorite things about her is her consistency I think of her 18 works I ve only given two 3 star ratings The rest are 4s or 5s So, if you liked this book I would look into of her books My favorite is A Simple Case of Seduction WARNING There is sex in this book, not overly explicit, but enough to be a steamy adult romance 3 5 steaminess 3 5 explicitness.
