Meticulously researched detail enhances the storytelling in this sequel to Love s Misadventure The story picks up a short time after the wild string of events for Lane and Anna in book 1 of the Mason Sibling Series This time we are following the strained relationship between Charles, Anna s older brother, and Bridget, Lane s younger sister. As we learned in Book 1, Charles, a Major in the military, is a spy, something he has not allowed anyone in his family to know and something he has kept from Bridget Prior to his joining the fight against Napoleon, Charles and Bridget intended to marry But in his effort to protect her, Charles has distanced himself from her and attempted to set aside his string feelings It makes many tense and curious situations as both fight against their natural attraction Bridget intends to become a governess and to never marry anyone while Charles plots to secretly arrange for her safety and comfort as much as possible in a manufactured position that will allow him to keep close tabs on her through his subordinates in the world of espionage Champagne s writing is clear and compelling as she leads us through the twists and turns of a relationship between characters who live under a set of very different societal expectations Lovers of romance, particularly 19th century period pieces, will thoroughly enjoy this story set in England s Regency period I began reading this story as an ARC supplied by the publisher but, due to other commitments, I did not finish the book in that session I have since read the released version in its entirely I highly recommend this story The great news is that there are other books coming soon in the series.

Interesting characters and moves right along I don t read many Regency era stories, but make a broad exception for spy stories I think spy stories from pre technology days, i.e cellphones, fax, computers, and so on, are a bit exciting than those of the modern day.I ve been thinking about this book for about two months I liked the story line, but the characters and story never really grabbed me I guess I was expecting or hoping for the rich descriptions and writing style of an author such as Susan Wiggs. It took me longer to read than other books due to the period and writing style along with the book s print The contrast or font size or font or something is gave me difficulty, particularly the italicized paragraphs.I always appreciate the opportunity to try a new author and expand my reading preferences, so I was very happy to win this book in the author s giveaway on Goodreads Thank you so much I am sharing it with a circle of local reading friends and then it will be donated to my local library for their collection or book sale.
