Reviewed by Michelle Stanley for Readers Favorite For those who gave everything After The Battle Has Just Begun is a military non fiction read by R.J Belle It comprises eight uplifting stories of combat injured men Each one emotionally recaps their reasons for joining the USMC, and the tragic circumstances that left them both mentally scarred and physically injured Their futures seemed vague until they moved to Freedom Station Sandy Lehmkuhler founded Warrior Foundation Freedom Station after seeing the needs of injured military men and women The mission of Freedom Station is to assist, honour and support servicemen and women with quality of life items, various support services, and transitional housing It assists four warrior groups the seriously injured returning from war those suffering from post traumatic stress or traumatic brain injuries persons requiring physical or occupational therapy, and warriors who are medically retired.Freedom Station is a non profit organization which relies on donations to help these courageous warriors All proceeds from After The Battle Has Just Begun will benefit this invaluable program Over 96% of funds raised are used to assist the injured servicemen and women The organization is managed by a dedicated team of volunteers It took a while for me to read the tearful first chapter, a dedication to 1st Lt Jared Landaker, USMC who died on active duty R.J Belle included the recorded conversations she had with the men she interviewed Their thoughts, pain, and fears were captured in these, thus giving the stories the desired authenticity she aimed for in the book I strongly urge readers to purchase this book, not only for the act of the charitable cause it is intended for, but for the enlightenment one gets from learning what life outside the USMC can be like for warriors who become injured.

I have learned so much about my self and how I see the world from this book I have grown as a person because of these stories of these men and the caregivers that take care of and help our warriors This book offers great insight on the thoughts and images of our warriors away from home, and then coming home different How can war, not even if physically altered, not change that person Everyone s AFTER is different, but their AFTER is inspiring.I dare you talk a walk with these guys and read their stories.Thank you RJ for bringing this to light, and thank you Warriors for sharing.

This book follows eight veterans who were wounded while at war and received life altering injuries The author does an amazing job setting up each story for the veteran I felt while I was reading that I was very connected to each and every one of them The stories are very traumatic to read and we do get a very clear picture of what happened to each individual before and after The author does not shy away from the details that might stop some people from reading.I felt like the author really took pride while writing this book As a reader you can tell this book is very well researched and the author gives her own opinion as well as giving us a large amount of facts to digest about each veteran and each case I personally had no idea what type of programs existed for veterans, but I did know that a lot of veterans do struggle This book really enlightened me not only about veterans, but what people are experiencing today during conflicts I honestly would read the news stories, but not fully digest what was going on, this book goes into the right amount of details to really show you what the soldiers are expecting when they go into places of conflict and as well as what is happening while in areas of conflict I would suggest this as a nighttime read It might be a harder topic for some people to read at night It didn t really help me wind down at night, but it really made me think about other things outside of my daily life It gave me a whole new perspective of veterans and also informed me of other programs that existed for veterans I found this book to be very educational and informative I would highly recommend reading this book if you want to know about veterans It was a very quick read and really hit a personal note for me.

Disclaimers I lost people in Nam I have been a nurse forever, including some years at a civilian TBI facility I have a grandson who served in Okinawa I have read Fire in My Eyes by Brad Snyder I have worked with former US Marines now serving in law enforcement This very moving book highlights the realities of war and what can and should be done to provide what is most needed by the warriors who have survived Each man named here has found the extra courage to do the unthinkable by allowing himself to be interviewed about his post war horrors knowing that it would be published These men were called to serve, and continue to serve in different capacities as civilians The roads have been long and hard, and will never really end, but they have new skills, and a purpose in life Americans need to read this book, I prefer the audio, and wake up to a reality that does not revolve around Hollywood, spending on things that they can t afford, or senselessly killing each other and the environment These people served you and have earned respect, regardless of how you choose to view wars.Rant over.I requested and received a free copy from the publisher, author, or narrators courtesy of AudioBookBOOM.

I found this book on Masquerade Crew s Review Club and requested a copy in exchange for my honest thoughts. This is a Non fiction book with a documentary feel to it.Warrior Foundation Freedom Station was started in order to help transition recovering combat injured military members from active duty to life as a civilian The author shares the story behind the scenes as well as those of some of the people who have passed through Freedom Station s doors This book touched me deeply The stories are told from the hearts, minds, and souls of those who willing put their lives at risk to give others freedom Warning This is for Mature Audiences due to the graphic nature of war and its aftermath Also you might want to keep plenty of tissues on hand.
