A beautiful illustrated book that will appeal to both new and long term fans readers young or old Long term Star Wars fans will appreciate the beautiful collection of Ralph Mcquarrie s now iconic illustrations, art that inspired the original look of the film and continues to influence artists down to this day.Meanwhile, younger ones can enjoy the story of Luke Skywalker as told by Tom Diterlizzi.Whether this is the first time they re hearing the story of the Skywalkers or simply they wish to relive the original trilogy, Diterlizzi s simplified retelling of George Lucas mythic tale will capture the mind of young readers just as the film did over forty years ago.

I bought this book on a whim from a Garden Centre to read with my eldest son to cultivate our shared love of Star Wars, what a good choice It s no exaggeration to say this book is an absolute thing of beauty The story is clever, they have extrapolated just the parts of the original trilogy that relate to Luke Skywalker and built them into a single story As a result it s perfect for bedtime reading as each light sabre fight or X Wing dogfight feels like a story in it s own right The real strength though are the beautiful illustrations, many take a slightly different slant on the characters in the original films but nearly all of them are fantastically realised You d be happy to frame many of them and put them on your wall This is the second time round my 5 year old and I have read this, I m sure it won t be the last.

I ve always loved Ralph McQuarrie s concept art for Star Wars, and here we have a retelling of the classic trilogy using his beautiful paintings I recommend the book for that alone Old school fans should really enjoy a nostalgia buzz I also endorse this for parents of young Star Wars fans who would like to get them interested in reading The story is simplified and modest, but retains the main themes and events of the movies The pages are also packed to the edges with vibrant and detailed artwork Overall, a fun look back for Star Wars fans.

While the text is oversimplified and inaccurate possibly in order to better fit the illustrations , the REAL star here are Ralph McQuarrie s amazing paintings and drawings This is a worthy purchase solely for those, as many are difficult to find in print now McQuarrie was one of the very first conceptual artists I discovered as a kid, and his fantastical illustrations of a galaxy far, far away sparked my imagination in a big way Let them inspire your children and inner child again.

Good retelling but my kid wants me to keep reading it to him and it s a bit too old for him We just do a couple pages at a time and I skip a lot He s afraid of the AT ATs of all things.I don t know why we shelve it in picture books It s pretty long
